Terms of Service

By using the site, the app, or the community preset API, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use Spectra. Spectra is built and operated by Cole, an independent developer, and “we” below means exactly that one person.

When you buy Spectra you get a personal, non-exclusive license to install and use the app. Your license key is shown at /account and can be activated on up to 3 Macs. You can revoke a device from that page to free up a seat.

• Do not share, resell, or publish your license key.
• Do not try to bypass licensing or activation limits.
• You own your own EQ settings and presets. The app itself stays ours.

The app updates itself through Sparkle. Downloads at /download redirect to the current signed release on GitHub Releases.

Spectra is in alpha. That means real bugs, changing features, and the occasional thing that does not work. The app is provided as is and as available, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. That includes no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, bug free, compatible with your hardware, or fit for a particular purpose.

Spectra processes system audio. Keep your listening volume sensible while you try it, especially with headphones.

In plain terms: if Spectra causes a problem, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost work, lost data, lost revenue, damaged equipment, or any indirect or consequential loss that comes from using or not being able to use Spectra.

Some places do not allow every exclusion above. Where that is true, this section applies as far as local law permits, and the rest still stands.

Accounts are handled by Clerk. Use a real email address, because that is how license keys and account notices reach you. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

You can close your account at any time by emailing general@spectraaudio.tech.

Polar is the Merchant of Record for every Spectra purchase. Polar is the seller on your receipt, and Polar handles payment processing, global tax, invoices, and refund processing. Card details go to Polar and never touch this site.

Spectra is sold as a one-time purchase or as a monthly subscription. A subscription renews each month until you cancel it. Cancelling stops future charges, and access continues to the end of the period you already paid for.

For a refund, a receipt, or any billing question, email general@spectraaudio.tech or open the Polar billing portal from /account/billing. Refund requests made in good faith for an alpha product get a fair hearing.

The community preset API exists so people can share EQ presets. Use it in good faith.

• Do not publish unlawful content, content that infringes someone else's rights, or content designed to harass or mislead.
• Do not use preset names, descriptions, or creator handles as an advertising channel or a place for spam.
• Do not attack, overload, or scrape the API at volume, and do not try to break its rate limits or access data that is not yours.
• Do not impersonate another creator.

You keep ownership of the presets you publish. By publishing one you give us permission to host it, show it on the site, and serve it to the app, with credit to your display name. You can delete a preset at any time.

Presets that break these rules can be removed without notice. Reported presets are reviewed by a person.

You can stop using Spectra whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that abuses the service, breaks these terms, or puts other users at risk. If we close a paid account without cause, you get a fair refund of what you paid for time you cannot use.

The sections on liability, purchases, and content ownership survive the end of your account.

These terms are governed by the law of the place where Spectra is operated from, and any dispute will be handled by the courts with jurisdiction there. The exact jurisdiction and venue will be named in this section before Spectra leaves alpha.

These terms will change as Spectra grows. When they do, the effective date at the top of this page changes. Significant changes will be announced on the site or by email to account holders. Continuing to use Spectra after a change means the updated terms apply.
